If you seek out writers who have the kinds of clients that you prefer to work with, then you’ll not only get referrals from them if you can buddy up, but you will also get work that’s more fun.

And yes, totally, many clients want nice looking sites but are stuck when it comes to creating good content.

Nice article, we work closely with some copywriters and find it’s great for networking and bringing in clients from industries we wouldn’t usually get.

This is a great angle that I hadn’t thought of before. With the economy the way it is, unsolicited business has slowed dramatically. I find myself spending more and more time each day hunting down possible clients instead of doing what I love – designing.

I have clarify with my clients that I am a designer, not a wordsmith. I will use dummy text to show placement thru out the design process.

When you have someone like Dawn Sievers on your side it makes the job so much easier.

Got to agree with the article. I have a background in copywriting but now work as a web designer. I am lucky that I have a lot of contacts who are copywriters and they are often telling me about clients they are working with who are looking for websites.

This is a great idea, one that I only came across a few months ago when I designed a new site for a copy writer.

I would extend the reach of this not just to copy writers, but to any technology-based people you know, specifically when talking about computers.

I recently sat down with a networks guy, and it seems a large majority of his clients want to get a new website design when they’re upgrading the rest of their technologies. As it looks right now, I’m in a great position to grab some clients through him with a simple referral by him.
